Gross began his acting career in 1926, initially performing in cabarets. He was active in films starting in 1933 and often portrayed friendly characters or local figures. Apart from movies, he gained fame for his role as “Schussel” in road safety educational shorts and as a member of the radio cabaret “Die Insulaner.”
