Praveen Kumar Sobti

Praveen Kumar Sobti was an Indian actor known for his roles in popular films and television series. He is best recognized for his portrayal of “Bheem” in B.R. Chopra’s Mahabharat and for appearing in various Hindi films throughout his career. Sobti was also a former athlete who competed in the Olympics.

Personal and Family Life

Praveen Kumar Sobti was born on December 6, 1947, in Sarhali Karan, Punjab, India. He was married to Bina Devi Sobti and had three children: Ankit Sobti, Nipunika Sobti Seth, and Tina Sobti Sharma. Sobti had four brothers and a sister, and his son worked for Jet Airways. His daughter Nipunika was once engaged to famous actor Akshay Kumar.

Career

Beyond acting, Praveen Kumar was an accomplished hammer and discus thrower. He won a silver medal in the 1966 Commonwealth Games and in the 1974 Asian Games. He also represented India in two Olympic Games, held in 1968 and 1972. In addition to his athletic career, he ventured into politics by contesting the 2013 Delhi Legislative elections with the Aam Aadmi Party, but he lost. Later, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2014.

Death and Legacy

Praveen Kumar Sobti passed away on February 7, 2022, in New Delhi due to a heart attack. His legacy continues through his memorable performances and significant contributions to Indian cinema and sports.
