Pamela Salem was born on January 22, 1944, in Bombay, India. She had a Jewish father and a Sri Lankan mother, which reflects her diverse cultural background. She was married to Michael O’Hagan from July 31, 1983, until his passing on November 1, 2017.

Salem studied at Heidelberg University in Germany and the Central School of Speech and Drama in London. She had notable appearances in two Doctor Who episodes, playing Toos in The Robots of Death and Professor Rachel Jensen in Remembrance of the Daleks.
