Nato Vachnadze was born on June 14, 1904, in Warsaw, Poland. Her birth name was Natalia Andronikashvili. She was part of an aristocratic family; her father had connections to the last Byzantine Emperors, and her mother was Polish. Vachnadze had three marriages, including one with director Nikoloz Shengelaia, and had two sons, Eldar and Giorgi, both of whom became successful directors in the film industry.
