Grant Withers was born Granville Gustavus Withers on January 17, 1905, in Pueblo, Colorado. He was married four times, including a marriage to actress Loretta Young when he was 25 and she was 17. This marriage was annulled due to its invalidity in the Catholic Church. Throughout his life, he struggled with personal issues, including health problems that contributed to his later decline.
Career
Before becoming an actor, Withers worked as a salesman and newspaper reporter. He transitioned into acting during the late silent film era and became a prominent figure in Hollywood, appearing in over 200 films. Although he started in leading roles, he often played villains in B movies and serials, especially during the 1940s.

Grant Withers died on March 27, 1959, in North Hollywood, California, from a suicide by overdose of barbiturates at the age of 54.
