Floyd Sneed

Floyd Sneed was a Canadian-American drummer best known for his work with the rock band Three Dog Night. He was also known for his participation in various other musical projects and as an artist.

Personal and Family Life

Floyd Sneed was born on November 22, 1942, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He had a sister named Maxine and a brother named Bernie, and his parents were both musicians in their community church. Although he originally aimed to become a soccer player, he found a passion for drumming, which started with a drum kit gifted by his sister. He eventually played in the “Tommy Chong Band,” leading to a successful music career.

Career

In 1966, Sneed formed his own band called “Heat Wave” before moving to Los Angeles. In 1968, he joined the legendary band Three Dog Night, where he became a key member until their breakup in 1977. Besides Three Dog Night, he performed with the Ohio Players and a short-lived band called S.S. Fools. Floyd also made a brief appearance as a drummer in the comedy film “Far Out Man” released in 1990 and continued playing with “Dog + Katt.” In addition to music, he was a talented artist whose works have been displayed in galleries across Canada and the United States.

Death and Legacy

Floyd Sneed passed away on January 27, 2023, in Canada due to natural causes. He left a significant mark on the music world, particularly in the rock genre of the 60s and 70s. His contributions to Three Dog Night and other bands have solidified his legacy as a notable drummer in the industry.
