Erich Schellow was married to Elke von Klopmann from 1983 until his death on November 25, 1995. Early in his career, he worked as a dubbing actor, providing the German voice for notable artists, including Peter Cushing. He trained at the acting school of the Preußischen Staatstheater in Berlin, guided by actress Lola Müthel, which helped him develop his skills on stage.

Career

Schellow made his acting debut in 1937 as Mortimer in Schiller’s “Maria Stuart” at the Deutschen Volkstheater in Hamburg. He gained acclaim for his performances on classical stages, although he appeared less frequently on screen. His portrayal of Sherlock Holmes in the 1967 TV series earned him the title of honorary member of the German Sherlock Holmes Society.
