Elyse Knox

Elyse Knox was an American actress who is best known for her roles in The Mummy’s Tomb, Joe Palooka in Fighting Mad, and The Girl from Avenue A. Born Elsie Lillian Kornbrath on December 14, 1917, in Hartford, Connecticut, she became notable not only for her acting career but also as the wife of football star Tom Harmon and mother of actor Mark Harmon.

Elyse married football star Tom Harmon on August 26, 1944, and they had three children: Mark, Kristin, and Kelly. Before that, she was briefly married to Paul Hesse from February 1942 until their divorce in March 1944. Elyse had a strong passion for art and pursued a career in painting early in her life, even holding an exhibition of her work in 1981.

Knox’s acting career took off after she began modeling, which ultimately led to her being signed by 20th Century-Fox. She debuted in a minor role in the film Wake Up and Live in 1937 and went on to appear in various movies throughout the 1940s, including her famous role in The Mummy’s Tomb.
